New Song: I Like Me Better for Guitar, Piano, and Singing
Posted on August 23, 2019
Let’s learn this catchy pop tune! As you listen, try paying attention to the sounds and instruments of the song – the way they’re put together in layers to create a whole. You’ll notice individual instruments coming in and out, like drum beats starting up and dropping back to clicks. Try to follow individual sounds you hear in the song, and notice what happens to them. This type of active listening is a great way to understand more about how music works, and develop your musical ear.
“I Like Me Better”, made famous by Lauv, is now available in Yousician for Guitar, Piano, and Singing.

In the main melody exercise (level 4) you’ll play a slightly simplified version of the vocal and instrumental melodies in the song. There’s some tricky timing, but if you start slow and listen carefully to the song while you play, it should click into place.
In the cowboy chords exercise (level 5) you’ll play the main chords of the song: G D C Em. This is one of the most popular sets of chords on guitar – you’ll see them together in a vast number of songs, so it’s useful to practice until they’re all completely memorised and automatic.
I Like Me Better for Singing
by: Sonja Patrikainen, Music Education Designer for Singing
Here’s a nice, laid back song to sing! Pay attention especially to the rhythms. Start practicing in tempo by first “rapping” the lyrics – no melody yet – and you’ll notice the song is composed so that it flows with the natural rhythm of the words. And once you add the melody again, remember the speech-like feeling! This way you’ll keep up a relaxed and natural flow with singing without pushing your voice too much.
